Minnesota’s Primary Is Tuesday, August 11 — And This One Actually Matters
Primaries usually get ignored. But this year is different. Why? Nearly every major statewide office on the ballot is contested this August: U.S. Senate, Governor, Secretary of State, and State Auditor all have real primary races. And Hennepin is choosing a new County Attorney.
Because primary turnout is historically low, a relatively small number of voters end up deciding who Republicans send into November. A big turnout for the endorsed Republican candidate shows that Minnesotans support a strong challenger to Ilhan Omar.
You can vote before August 11:
- In-person absentee voting has been open since June 26
- Early Voting (Minnesota’s newer in-person option) opens July 24
- Last day to vote early in person: Monday, August 10
